The experience

Often overshadowed by its infamous neighbor, the Col de Joux Plane, the Col du Ranfolly is a hidden gem that offers a spectacular, peaceful alternative. Rising out of the bustling ski town of Morzine, this climb takes you through the charming alpine village of Les Gets before the road narrows and the real isolation begins.

The upper section of the Ranfolly is beautifully quiet, wrapping around the mountain with sweeping views of the surrounding Chablais region. It is a fantastic, rhythmic climb without the leg-snapping ramps of other local peaks, making it a favorite for riders looking to enjoy the scenery while still logging serious alpine elevation.

Route note: Stats above are for the classic approach via Morzine. Side winds, heat, and traffic can change how hard the climb feels on the day.

Pro tips

  • Connect the peaks: The Ranfolly is part of a fantastic local loop. Once at the summit, you are just a short ride away from the legendary Joux Plane. Linking them together creates an epic day out.
  • Watch the traffic in Les Gets: The lower section up to Les Gets can carry heavier traffic during the peak summer season. Ride early in the morning to enjoy a quieter ascent.
  • Pace the middle: The gradient spikes slightly just after you leave Les Gets. Settle into a rhythm here and save energy for the exposed final kilometers.
